The evening light highlights the rugged contours of this place, bringing to light the wild and remote feeling this place evokes when you spend time there. The exact location of this tarn is found on Scotty's Saddle, near Scottys Bivouac and the Tara Tama Range.

The Ahuriri Valley is located inland to the West of Omarama in the central South Island of New Zealand. A popular spot for tramping, fishing and hunting, I visited this area a number of times, visiting all the backcountry huts throughout the valley.
After spending a night at Hagens Hut I woke to this view looking up to the headwaters of the valley. The neutral blues and greens caught my eye, topped off with the snow capped rugged mountains. The feeling of a crisp and cool morning speaks clearly through this colour palette, drawing you into the scene. I can still remember when the morning sun finally came down into the valley warming the soul!

The Oteake Conservation Park is located behind Omarama in the Mackenzie Country. Full of 4WD tracks and some stunning tramping and photographic country. The well known Hawkdun Ranges sits not far from this scene.
